So there has been a movement the past couple of years to name older women in the dating scene cougars, especially when they are looking for younger men, or younger guys were seeking older or more mature women. I had thought we were all going to stick to the word MILF, but I suppose cougar is a better choice for several reasons.
I guess cougar is more politically correct in some ways. MILF stands for Mom I’d Like to Fuck, and perhaps that is kind of dirty in some women’s minds. I guess if I was filling in a dating profile as a woman, I might not want to use an acronym that says simply “someone you want to fuck”. Cougar at least could be someone you want to date, it doesn’t have sex in the title. I suppose there are also cougars out there that are not moms, and so an older woman who wants to have sex couldn’t really take the official MILF title if she has no kids. Cougar seems to be a word being accepted by large groups of mature women who are looking for more mainstream acceptance.
In an article at Time.com I was surprised to learn that there is a cougar convention, cougar themed cruises, and some are calling it “a feminist movement that’s now being celebrated on network sitcoms Cougartown and Accidentally on Purpose” – a feminist movement, really? I guess it could be, I had only seen a short segment of some cougar reality dating show and thought it would be a fad, but I have seen the term thrown around in a couple of movies recently, and it appears that there are large groups of women aspiring to bear the title cougar.
There is even a Miss Cougar America, this year the title is owned by Silicon Valley business consultant Gloria Navarro. When askes about carnival cruises recent decision to no longer book cougar cruises, she said “But unfortunately this could be taken the wrong way by people who don’t quite grasp the fact that the day of the gold digger is over and women like me have finally come into their own.”
From reading the article at Time, I learned that the term given to the younger meat that they seek is “cub” – I’m not sure if this is synonymous with sugar-baby, a term that is often given to the young girls who seek older men for their money. The Time article states that Cougars are largely an affluent, professional women’s group. I’m not one to think that you have to be a rich woman with a degree to claim the term Cougar, but perhaps that will become the stereotype. Maybe the money is part of the cougar equation though.
The label MILF doesn’t carry any financial weight to it, and doesn’t imply that the mom in question is even seeking a man or woman to to have sex with, it simply states that she it hot, or has some other qualities that make someone want to fuck her. The word cougar does kind of have the ring of predator, and hunting. If it’s being given to older women and implying that they are looking for younger men, it is kind of accepting in our society that hot young guys can get hot young girls, and so they would not be chasing an older woman, unless there was money involved. I suppose this is where we are going with this term.
That’s not to say that the cougar label is being given to women who are looking to pay for sex. I think it’s more about women who can afford to take a guy out for nice dinners and shopping, cruises, and the finer things in life. Being about money also suggests that the women have the discretionary income to afford personal trainers, plastic surgery, laser lipo, regular hair appointments, and other services to keep them looking better. With money comes finer clothes, cars, houses, trips, and many other things that are attractive to people. A sugar daddy is a term that can be used in many ways to describe various types of outside-the-norm-relationships.
Just like many sugar daddies who want more of the “girlfriend experience”, and not simply a cash for sex prostitute, sugar mammas generally want to have dinner and conversation. I am sure that there are women out there who are just in it for the sex, and some women who are simply paying for companionship, however I do not see the cougar as being so much the hand over cash type of title. Right now I am considering the cougar as being ready and able to provide nice dates, and able to pick up the tab for pay for a trip. Certainly having the money to take extra good care of themselves, and that alone will add a dimension to attractiveness of younger (and older) men.
So maybe the cougar title is more about an empowered, looking-good -for-her -age woman who is actively seeking younger men for relationships. It makes sense to me, I have seen several women the past year who must have been late forties, and looked very good. They certainly had the looks to attract younger men, and I am sure that having the money to afford the hair dos, good diets, nice clothes and such made a difference.
Women looking for younger men is put into some kind of societal non-norm from what I have read. I never looked at it this way, but then again I have never considered it or thought about it much either. Is it so unusual to see younger guys dating older woman? The more I think about it, I guess I have not seen a lot of that. So maybe society has not embraced that as the norm. Certainly I see many more younger guys dating younger girls, and older men dating older women. I suppose there are many factors that can be causing this to change more these days.
We have many more women in the workforce today than we had 50 years ago, and the hundreds of years before that in our society. Many more women today are doctors, lawyers, executives, business owners, and other professionals. Women as a group have more money and resources, and are less dependent upon men. There is no longer the need to stay with a man into his later years. I believe that for centuries women were kind of relationship locked into staying with older men as they aged, just like many people are job locked these days just to keep insurance benefits.
There are also many changes in our society with family structures, and other relationships that are accepted and normal, that were not so in the past. Interracial dating, single moms, baby mamas, swinging, bisexual, lesbian, gay, and other words to describe what were once unusual activities, choices, or situations are quite common and accepted these days. Recently I read that we now have more women living alone or unmarried than ever before. This is normal, not just a very small percentage of people.
So it’s becoming normal, or mainstream for women to claim the cougar title. Apparently it has been accepted and common for older men to date younger women, and to marry a trophy wife has been common for a long time. Now it is time for women to turn the tide and take younger men with pride. I think this is a good thing for many reasons.
From a sexual and physical standpoint, women achieve their sexual prime around 30, and most men around 18. It certainly makes sense that a super horny, sexual women would want a man that can keep up with her, and the health and sexual fitness of people in our society kind of dictates that a majority of our 30 something and older men just can’t keep up with the sexual appetites of a liberated woman in her sexual prime like a younger 20 year old could. I have certainly been with women that could take all the sex I could give them, and then wear out a vibrator and still want more. I am betting that she could easily handle two or three young studs in their prime, and I am in pretty good shape, practice tantra a bit, and had battery operated help to try to satisfy her.
From a financial standpoint, it makes sense that younger men could benefit from having women buying some of the nicer things in life, and that would free up a bit of money to take care of other things. When it comes down to spending money on education and investments or choosing to take girls out and buy drinks, well most young men will go for the route to sex before spending wisely. So dating girls who can buy their own drinks, dinner, cars and clothes definitely makes financial sense.
I think men should really get behind this “feminist” movement, as it adds legitimacy the other way as well. It makes sense for older men to date younger women for the same reasons.
